Weighted vests ship by actual weight, so sea freight is the economical default — plan lead times around it. Ways buyers keep freight in check: start your first order with lighter weight tiers and add heavy tiers once the line proves out; keep packaging sized to your FBA weight tier, because one tier over eats the margin; combine the vests with supports or sleeves in one container to balance the load and cut cost per unit; and on plate-compatible lines, shell-only orders ship at roughly 1.2 kg per unit instead of 10.5 kg loaded.

Seam Failure
A 20 kg vest drives every gram through pocket mouths, shoulder joins and the front closure. These seams do not fail statically. They fail on rep 4,000 — which is why a static pull test tells you almost nothing.

Box-X plus bartack at 6–8 SPI with 2–4 backstitch passes at every load path, then fatigue-cycled under load rather than pulled once.

How do you control the chemical smell weighted vests are known for?
At material selection, not at final QC. Odor is the only theme in this category where negative sentiment outweighs positive — 11.2% of Amazon review mentions, 80.4% of them negative. The source is usually the fill, the sealing adhesive and the print ink. We screen adhesives and inks before the line and pre-vent sealed pods before packing.
600D or 1000D — which shell should I choose?
600D for fixed-fill and mid-weight adjustable lines under US$60 retail. 1000D for heavy block builds above 20 lb and anything sold on durability. Stretch woven for slim. All grades are quoted side by side, so the cost difference is visible before you decide.
Can a weighted vest be washed?
Depends on the structure. Adjustable and plate builds: remove the weights, wash the shell. Fixed-fill vests cannot be fully washed — the fill is sealed inside. Care instructions are printed per market, so this reaches the end user and not just your customer service inbox.
Can I buy the vest without the weights?
Yes — on plate-compatible carriers and heavy block builds. The carrier ships at roughly 1.2 kg instead of 10.5 kg, and your local supplier provides the steel. We release pocket dimensions so the match is confirmed before you pay for a sample. Not recommended for Amazon single-unit sellers: your end customer should never source their own steel.
Can you make plate carrier style weighted vests?
Yes, as training carriers. 500D/600D shell, MOLLE, cummerbund tensioning, flat or curved plate compatibility. They are not body armour — we do not build, test, rate or market ballistic protection.
Do weighted vests need CE marking for the EU?
No. CE applies only where a specific EU harmonised regulation covers the product and requires it. A general-use adult fitness weighted vest is not in that scope, and affixing CE outside it is itself a violation. What you actually need is GPSR compliance, REACH screening and correct textile labelling. If a supplier offers you a “CE certified weighted vest”, ask which directive.
